El Municipio de Juncos regala sonrisas y esperanza!

 

El Municipio de Juncos, junto a Amgen, sorprendió al público junqueño con una noche de risas e inspiración. El público escucho mi historia de superación de mi cáncer, se gozaron la risoterapia y salieron del Teatro Rafael A. Castro Pereda con el mejor regalo que se les puede hacer: una copia del libro de Quimiorela para compartir con su familia y amistades un mensaje de esperanza y optimismo. Yo actué un segmento de la historia y un voluntario del público actuó la parte de Vince, el artista de rock que se enamora de Quimiorela. A carcajada pura la dramatización quedó espectacular. La manera perfecta para completar una serie de eventos que el Municipio llevó a cabo para celebrar la Concienciación del Mes de Cáncer de Seno. Gracias!

One hundred and fifty students laughed and danced with me. This was last friday in Juncos, Puerto Rico. What a great way to heal and improve daily life! Laugh for the joy of it! Laugh to heal! They loved the laughter exercises! JoJo…JaJaJa…I acted out a segment of Chemorella. Five schools ranging from 11 years old to 17 years old had the best time of their life. Each student received a book of Chemorella and I autographed each one of them! Fun,fun,fun!

Chemorella selected as “Best of 2010″ by Borders

Chemorella has been selected as one of the “Best of 2010″ by Borders. When my husband Ken Phillips and myself walked into Borders in Plaza las Américas , Puerto Rico, for our Christmas shopping we were thrilled to see our book Chemorella on the table labeled “Best of 2010″.

We are so proud to have written and self published a spectacular fully ilustrated and bilingual book that gives a new voice to those battling cancer, a positive role model and a heroe to be inspired by.  What a great Christmas gift for us. Ken and I have spent the Holidays making every effort to get Chemorella to everybody who needs it in Puerto Rico. We are hoping to accomplish this by joining efforts with the Department of Education in Puerto Rico. We believe that student can be educated about prevention and cancer while being entertained and inspired. We will also be joining efforts to help women go through the process of breast cancer in a more positive way with their families and loved ones.

Humor y risas en el Hospital de Niños de San Jorge

Visité el Hospital de Niños San Jorge en Puerto Rico para conocer a dos pequeños héroes batallando cáncer con un espíritu tan positivo, un entusiasmo conmovedor y unas ganas de reir y de vivir admirable! David de Añasco, 13 años, experto jugando bejeweled, practica el baloncesto con su vecino, es tan cariñoso con sus amigos y con todo aquel que le muestra afecto honesto y adora a su mamá Sandra, quien es otra persona admirable.

Mi otro héroe es el pequeñito Jean Luis, 5 añitos, también experto en bejeweled, le encanta sonreir, compartir y es extremadamente inteligente y tierno como su madre Janice. Dos personitas que me han robado el corazón y me han enseñado una vez más lo que realmente es importante en la vida: el amor.

Nos reímos, compartimos historias, jugamos juegos electrónicos e intercambiamos nuestras impresiones de la historia de Chemorella (Quimiorela). Sandra me comunicó lo importante que ha sido la historia de Chemorella para ella poder aceptar y lidiar con el diagnóstico de su hijo y cómo este libro ha ayudado a su hijo a sonreir más y tener una actitud positiva durante sus tratamientos. Mi esposo Ken Phillips, co-autor de Chemorella y yo nos alegramos de que el impacto de esta historia sea tan positiva y efectiva. Gracias por apoyar a Chemorella!

Humor and smiles at San Jorge Children’s Hospital

I visited San Jorge Children’s Hospital  in Puerto Rico and met two brave cancer fighters, David who is 13 years old and cute Jean Luis who is 5 years old. Their mothers and school friends were there and they were laughing, giggling and having so much fun!  We jokes, shared stories, played games and truly had a Chemorella moment. “Everyone who knows you loves you! What a magical day!

Chemorella ante las Primeras Damas de Puerto Rico

Chemorella y yo tuvimos el privilegio de ser dos de las invitadas especiales de la Primera Dama de Puerto Rico, Lucé Vela. En la presentación de Chemorella, exhorté a las Primeras Damas presentes a incorporar el libro Chemorella (Quimiorela) como una iniciativa educativa  para concienciar sobre cáncer de seno en los municipios.

“Este libro tiene tres metas: aliviar el impacto emocional del paciente ante un diagnóstico de cáncer, disminuir el sentimiento de miedo ante la enfermedad, motivando a las personas a hacerse sus exámenes medicos como medida de prevención y crear empatía hacia el paciente, el sobreviviente y los familiares” explicó la actriz con su conocido humor y entusiasmo.

Este evento reunió a diferentes personalidades del ámbito político y en el mismo se ofreció información sobre los esfuerzos de Susan G. Komen for the Cure- Puerto Rico, así como educación sobre el cáncer de seno. Se extendió la invitación a las Primeras Damas a incorporar el Programa Banderas a sus esfuerzos de concienciación sobre cáncer de seno en cada municipio.

Hubo representación de la Oficina de la Primera Dama de Puerto Rico, de la Comisión de Asuntos de la Mujer del Senado, del Caucus de la Mujer de la Cámara de Representantes y diferentes municipios como: Canóvanas, Ciales, Guánica, Humacao, Las Marías, Las Piedras, Loíza, Patillas, Ponce, Salinas, San Juan, entre otros. 29 de septiembre de 2010 Salón Leopoldo Figueroa, El Capitolio.

Chemorella Book Signing

Chemorella (Quimiorela), el fabuloso libro ilustrado que ha sido todo un “hit” se presentó en Borders de la ciudad de Mayagüez en Puerto Rico este pasado 2 de octubre. La lluvia, las calles mojadas y un torrencial de agua no detuvo a las personas de asistir a la firma del libro y gozaron muchísimo con la presentación teatral de la lectura. El príncipe actuó bien cool y hasta bailó reagatón todo sonriente. Resulta que Coqui es un tremendo hombre que apoyo a su esposa durante su lucha contra el cáncer y le emocionó mucho la presentación. Felicidades, Coqui, que eres todo un príncipe por tu amor y tu apoyo a tu esposa. Un aplauso a ti con respeto y admiración. Thank you Mayagüez!

Press Conference, Thursday, 16 September

I will be giving a press conference tomorrow, 16 September, to formally launch the publication of the book written by Ken Phillips (my husband) and me. It is CHEMORELLA (Quimiorela), and you can find out more about it by going to “Chemorella” on Facebook and Twitter. At the press conference I plan to reveal the events in my life that prompted Ken and me to come up with this great story. I also will have copies of the book and will be showing the incredible illustrations from it. It’s a 60-page, full-color, fully illustrated book for anyone 10 years of age and older (including adults). I also will discuss the purposes that the book will serve: emotional support for the cancer patient and his or her family, encouraging people to get test and treated for cancer, and creating empathy for those who are fighting this disease or, for that matter, struggling with any of life’s major challenges. My husband and myself have written a great story to help families that have been impacted by a diagnosis of cancer and we are self publishing right now.
